The Welsh Refugee Council works with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to provide a health session to newly arrived asylum seekers in Wales. A nurse with personal experience of the asylum process facilitates the service and helps create access to healthcare whilst assessing the asylum seekers’ health needs. Following this new arrivals will be directed to appropriate agencies such as the Sanctuary Project, Gwent Association for Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) and WRC’s Move On project.
The service is available to asylum seekers and failed asylum seekers who have on-going health needs. It takes place at our Newport office every Tuesday and Thursday.
