City of Sanctuary is a national movement where local people and communities work together to make their cities a place where new arrivals are welcomed and where they can begin to feel safe from war and persecution.

Swansea became the UK’s second official City of Sanctuary in May 2010. It formally adopted its constitution in February 2012.
Swansea has offered a home to people who have lost their homes and families and wishes to celebrate the welcoming attitudes of Swansea's people and organisations.
The Swansea City of Sanctuary Management Committee invites all organisations, local groups and individuals to join them and help make Swansea proud to be a place of safety. City of Sanctuary support can include community centres, charities, social clubs, schools, local services and businesses, as well as refugee organizations and volunteers. Supporting organisations promise to welcome and include people seeking sanctuary in their activities.
